- When we go to bed at night, it is almost second nature to connect the cell phone to the charger. Many people do this even though they haven't actually used their cell phones all day. While this is certainly going to keep the battery charged, it can have an adverse effect on how long the phone can hold a charge. By allowing the phones battery to drain before recharging, you are working to ensure that the phone can continue to hold the proper charge and will save you both money and stress down the road.
- While some people may find it hard to believe at first, cell phones are very similar to computers in many ways. As such, it is always wise to turn your phone off from time to time to allow the operating system to reboot. Just like a personal computer, running your cell phone all the time can lead to slowdown, file corruption (which, on cell phones, is much harder to repair) and eventually even dropped calls or substandard call quality. If you are going to a movie or a sporting event, consider shutting your phone off for a few hours.
- This may seem like common sense, but with cell phones becoming a normal part of everyday life we can place the phone down next to the sink while doing dishes through sheer force of habit, not realizing where we put the phone until it's already soaked. It is always wise to keep your phone away from wet areas. Also note that keeping your cell phone on the sink while you shower is also dangerous as the steam from hot water can get between the crevices in the casing and numeric pad and do damage to the circuitry.
